NHP Holiday Kitchen – Tackling Holiday Hunger!

HOLIDAY KITCHEN (1)

Our NHP Sure Start Family Support Team took some of the stress out of the holidays this February half term by providing meals and activities for free at New Beginnings Church in Ovenden.

Over 3 fun-packed days 11 families learned how to cook simple, nutritious meals on a budget with an ingredients parcel and recipes to take home too. Each day parents and children took part in physical and arts and crafts activities before sitting down to enjoy a home-cooked meal together.

Here’s what some of our families said:

“It’s a really good idea and brilliant ways to get the children talking about nutritious food. We will enjoy cooking as a family later.”

“It has been an amazing first time experience at holiday kitchen. The kids have  enjoyed it and there’s been lots to do. My 10 year old has enjoyed learning about what goes in to making things, how to cook it and most of all eating it at the end!”

Our NHP Family Support Manager, Baseer had this to say,

“For families on lower incomes the holidays can be a difficult time especially for those who usually rely on free school meals. Holiday Kitchen is about trying to reduce some of the pressure and building resilience in families through learning cheaper, healthier ways to cook”

HOLIDAY KITCHEN (4) NHP Holiday Kitchen will be back in the Summer Holidays with more families, food and fun – keep an eye on our NHP Children’s Centre website or Facebook page for more……

And, if all this talk of food has got you thinking about lunch, here are 3 Holiday Kitchen recipes to try at home – Lentil and Tomato Soup  Potato, Leek Soup  Stir Fry
