It’s Love Parks Week! Love Parks is an annual campaign that celebrates parks, green spaces, and the dedicated volunteers and workers that look after them all year round. Whatever green space means to you – whether it’s a large park with things to do, a place you go walking, or even a small bit of land you wish you could grow some vegetables on…. this is the week to talk about it!
At North Halifax Partnership we know how important green space is for keeping healthy and happy and we are luckily in Calderdale to have lots of glorious green space in which to thrive. Being outside in the fresh air and amongst nature has loads of health benefits including:
- It’s a great way to be active – a simple walk, an energetic game of football or a wander with a litter picker its all movement that adds up! Being outside and being active go hand in hand. And we all know when we move more we’re stronger, happier and healthier.
- Connect with friends, family and your community – getting outside is an easy way to meet others. Who doesn’t enjoy a family picnic?
- Taking time to slow down, breathe and look after your wellbeing – nature has a powerful impact on our wellbeing. Being outside in green space can help us shift out of the fast pace of life and be mindful of the beauty around us.
- Finding things to do and improve the place you live – joining a litter picking or walking group is a great way to get involved in your local area and be part of making it somewhere you are proud to live!
North Halifax Partnership work really closely with people like the Council’s Green Space and Street teams, Countryside Services and Active Calderdale to improve the green spaces in our area. Our Neighbourhood team can often be found in parks and green spaces – whether they are leading a litter pick, supporting an event or just out for a walkabout. We also recognise the wonderful volunteers and community groups that work endlessly to nurture and look after our local areas. So, in the spirit of Love Parks week we are going to bring you stories that highlight the great green spaces locally and the awesome people helping keep them vibrant and looked after. We’re also going to be out and about across North Halifax talking to people about what they love about their local parks – come join us and have your say!
