Funding Approved for Community Workshops in Mixenden

From Tuesday 9th June residents in Mixenden, Halifax have had the opportunity to take part in a new programme of wellbeing-focused workshops delivered by It’s a Twin Thing, thanks to funding support through North Halifax Partnership / Staying Well.

The funded programme will provide a series of beginnerfriendly workshops designed to improve wellbeing, build confidence and bring local people together through shared experiences and learning new skills. Previous workshop feedback highlights the impact these sessions can have on confidence and self-belief.

One participant said:
“I thought you were both very patient teachers.”

Another said:
“I liked that you spent time with each individual.”

Other participants reported arriving unsure whether they would be able to learn new practical skills, but by the end of the workshop felt confident enough to continue their projects independently at home.

The sessions, taking place bi-weekly over a three-month period at Mixenden Activity Centre, Mixenden, Halifax, will encourage participants to try new activities in a relaxed and
welcoming environment where no previous experience is needed.

Sue and Carol from It’s a Twin Thing said:
“We’re delighted to receive funding to bring wellbeing workshops to Mixenden.
Our sessions are about much more than making things. We want people to walk in thinking, ‘I can’t do that,’ and leave thinking, ‘I actually made this.’ We focus on confidence, conversation and community as much as learning new skills.”

The funded programme aims to:

  • Improve wellbeing through mindful activities
  • Reduce loneliness and encourage social connection
  • Build confidence through learning new skills
  • Create accessible, welcoming spaces for local residents

Participants will have opportunities to try different activities, meet new people and build connections within their local community.

Support from North Halifax Partnership / Staying Well will help create regular spaces where people can come together, learn new skills and feel part of something supportive, while
ensuring opportunities remain accessible and inclusive for residents who may benefit most.
