CHILDREN & FAMILIES
We are a here to give every family in Calderdale the very best start. We offer a wide range of free, fun and welcoming activities for families with young children, delivered by our caring, qualified and experienced team.
What We Offer
You can find us in Family Hubs and community venues across Calderdale, where families can access trusted advice, meet other parents and carers, and enjoy opportunities for children to play, learn and thrive. Whether you’re looking for information, support or simply a friendly place to connect with others, the Starting Well Team is here for you.
The Starting Well Team supports families throughout their parenting journey, from pre-conception and pregnancy through to the early years and starting nursery and school.
We work with expectant parents, mums, dads, carers, grandparents and anyone involved in caring for a young child. While many of our services focus on babies and children aged 0-2 years, we also support families as their children grow, helping them build strong foundations for learning, development and wellbeing.
We know becoming a parent is one of life’s greatest joys, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. That’s why we’re here to make support easy to find, joined up and centred around helping babies, children and families flourish.
Starting Well offers something for every family. Our support focuses on three key areas: child development and school readiness, child and family health and wellbeing, and supporting parents and carers aspirations.
What Family Support Offers:
- Baby and Toddler Groups
- Infant Feeding Support Groups
- Baby Massage sessions
- Speech and Language Support Groups
- Support with weaning, fussy eating and toilet training
- Getting Ready for Nursery and School sessions
- Early support and activities for children with additional needs (SEND)
- Healthy pregnancy and preparing for baby courses
- Holiday Activities
We can also help families find and access other services through information, advice and referrals when extra support is needed.
Our Family Learning Programme offers a range of courses such as cooking sessions, creative play and family fitness sessions. We also offer accredited courses such as First Aid and food safety.
We have a volunteering programme, where you can gain experience for employment or further education by volunteering in the Family Hubs to gain experience in admin or working in the early years environment or you could become Parent Champion, being the voice of families in your local community and helping to shape Family Hub services.
