The Volunteers Go Walking

Laura & Rachel held two different walks for our volunteers last week (Parent Champions & Telephone Befriending), in Mixenden and in Elland, which offered a great opportunity for two different groups of volunteers to come together and spend time together out in their local community, enjoying a springtime walk.

We explored the local area in Mixenden, with the Ramblers (starting at Holy Nativity Church), re-discovering hidden-away paths and previously forgotten public rights of way, with some lovely views of the North Halifax countryside along the way. This was followed by a very welcome hot chocolate at Holy Nativity, as well as an option to join in with the community cafe held there every Monday afternoon.

In Elland, we joined Curious Motion, with a walk starting from Project Colt – we walked down the canal to the first set of locks, and our volunteers enjoyed spotting spring flowers, ducks, geese, a heron and lots of staff clearing up our canals to make them nicer for everyone. This was then followed up with a pay-as-you-feel drink back at Project Colt, along with some lovely conversations shared between the different volunteers and people from the area.
