Den Building Event at Cromwell Bottom

A Den building event was held at the Cromwell Wood Bottom Nature reserve on the 12th August 2025. Families were able to book onto the event through their family hub.

It was a fun filled day topped off by great weather. We all met at the cabins to start off with, and then gathered in the woods where we had lots of equipment and plenty of materials to make dens. The families were then split into groups where each group had the opportunity to participate in helping build dens no matter what the age!

Our youngest den builder was a little toddler carrying his own sticks to add to the aesthetics of his group’s den. There was plenty of opportunity to spend time in the dens, with a chance to visit their neighbour’s den, there even was some healthy competition on whose was better!

This event gave everyone the opportunity to get together and socialise, as well as have some quality time to do activities that some families wouldn’t necessarily get the chance to do. On the way back, the families even had a chance to look for toads and newts near the ponds and under the logs.

By the end of the event everyone was ready for a snack and a drink, which everyone enjoyed. There was even a little debate on which were the best crisps, onion rings or cheese puffs. The onion rings won this time.

Here’s some feed back from our expert den builders

“Such a great activity, well-tailored for the age group, so nice to be in the woods, my 4-year-old loved it, and even my 1-year-old got stuck in, great team building and chance for the kids to socialise. Packed lunch was very much appreciated as they were hungry.”

“A great activity for all the family to take part in, the kids followed the instructor and helped build the den, very enjoyable.”
