On August 31st, visitors to West View Park were treated to some live music courtesy of Friendly Brass Band. The event was organised collaboratively between Tony King – Neighbourhoods Officer, and the Staying Well team using a £500 grant from Warley Ward Forum. It saw people, young and old, come together to enjoy a range of musical offerings, including both traditional songs to popular hits from The Beatles, such as ‘Hey Jude’.
The weather was mainly fine and sunny, however, it wouldn’t be West Yorkshire without a brief rainy downpour! Umbrellas in hand, no one was deterred, and after a short interval the show continued!
The event saw around 50 people attend during the 2 hour session, with some making an afternoon of it by bringing a picnic and chairs. Others strolled around, walked their dogs, and used the play area whilst the music from the band floated through the park, creating a musical backdrop for their activities.
Abigail White – Councillor for Warley Ward, who was in attendance at the event, took to Facebook to express
‘What a lovely Sunday afternoon in West View Park listening to Friendly Brass Band. Thanks to Tony and the brilliant North Halifax Partnership team for organising.’
Resident Sam and wife Katie attended the event after hearing the music from their home a short distance away. Regular visitors to the park, they were delighted to hear the band and were grateful events like this were being held within their community.
