After a somewhat soggy summer holidays, it was brilliant to welcome the community to Beechwood Park on what tuned out to be a beautiful sunny day for the I Like To Move It event. We brought together a host of local sports and activity providers for a great day of fun and activity!
At NHP, we’re keenly aware of the benefits if keeping active, for ourselves and the wider community including bringing us together, boosting our mood and wellbeing and improving health. Our green spaces provide the space and facilities to keep ourselves active and this was an ideal opportunity to showcase how our local parks provide opportunities to get active.
North Halifax and Halifax as a whole, is fortunate to have a great variety of formal and informal ways to keep active. A particular highlight was the amazing bike giveaway by ONTRAK, a brilliant charity that among many other things, repairs children’s bikes to give away free to the community.
Saturday saw over 200 bikes given away and it was a marvellous seeing so many children cycling around the park. We were also treated to performances from Eat Smart Move More performing their aerobic dance routines, Magpie Mover who wowed us with their dance moves and Tai Chi Tigers bringing tranquillity to proceedings with gentle Tai Chi.
We received great feedback from the community on this event and it seems everyone enjoyed it! We hope to build on the success of this event in future so if you’d like to be involved, please get in touch. We also look forward to working more closely with the community to bring about improvements to the park to help visitors get active and enjoy their visit so if you have an idea or would like to get more involved, please contact Natalie.ratner@nhpltd.org.uk.
This event would not have been possible without the support of our fantastic partners so special thanks goes to:

“East Pennine Orienteering had a fantastic day and the North Halifax Partnership Move More event! We had lots of questions and enthusiasm about our sport and the main challenge and enjoyment for participants was trying to beat their times in the Orienteering maze!
We were able to pass out lots of maps for all abilities and discuss our virtual orienteering challenge we have set up in the park which can be done at any time!
We look forward to working alongside the North Halifax Partnership again and meeting new people in the future who want to have a go at what we have to offer. If you want to find out more about the club and our events, as well as our virtual orienteering challenge, check out our website on www.eastpennineoc.org.uk, also check out our Facebook page which is East Pennine Orienteering Club and our club Instagram is @eastpennineoc.”
