Community Organiser (Place Based Social Action)

Based in the Neighbourhood team at Kevin Pearce Children’s Centre

25 hours per week

£21,993 pro rata, increasing to £23,710 per annum pro rata from 1st April 2023

From the first Sure Start Children’s Centre to the first Men in Sheds group in Calderdale and lots in between. North Halifax is an area with a history of successful volunteer and community led programmes.  And you could be part of it!

NHP have delivered the Place Based Social Action Project in Partnership with Halifax Opportunities Trust since 2019. Through the work we have empowered communities to come together and harnessed social action to create change. As the project reaches its third phase, we are looking to build on existing success to ensure an effective legacy for North Halifax.

The role involves:

  • Building the power of people in North Halifax wards to make change on the issues they care about through door knocking and grassroots engagement
  • Listen to local people and facilitate conversations which motivate them to take action which benefits their lives and those of other people in the community.
  • Share community organising skills and ideas, and support people to develop their skills and knowledge to be better able to participate in public and community life and to make their voices heard.

It is essential that you have:

  • Experience of community organising including the core skills of listening, bringing people together and converting ideas into action
  • Knowledge and experience of the community sector
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse groups
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet project requirements
