Here at North Halifax Partnership, we help keep our planet clean not just today, but every day. Did you know we run community litter picks which you can get involved with?

Meet Natalie, one of our Community Organisers, who is in an advocate for keeping our streets clean.

Read all about what her role involves, how we look after our community and how you can get involved too!

What is your job role and what does it involve?

I’m a Community Organiser which means I help people in the community to work together to find solutions to local problems and set up new projects. I start by listening to people about what they would like to see happening in the community and then support them to make it a reality. This can be anything from litter picking to setting up new groups and campaigns.

How do you help keep our planet clean?

A couple of years ago, I set up a litter picking group and since we have removed over 1000 bags of litter from the streets and green spaces in Pellon and surrounding areas. I really enjoy litter picking as it meets the five ways to wellbeing so I would urge anyone to give it a go – you might be surprised about how enjoyable it is! Litter picking really opened my eyes to the scale of the problem and I’ve since made efforts to reduce my family’s overall consumption, mainly of plastic. We now have our milk delivered in glass bottles, use bamboo toothbrushes, soap in a sisal bag, composable cleaning sponges and continue to look at different ways to avoid plastic.

How are North Halifax Partnership supporting World Clean Up Day 2022?

As with last year, NHP staff will get involved on World Clean-up Day by litter picking around children’s centres and local green spaces. NHP are fortunate to have around 50 litter pickers to loan to community groups, staff and other organisations to help keep their area free of litter.

How could other people get involved?

There are many litter picking groups operating in different areas of Calderdale. If you get in touch, we can let you know about your local group. Or, if you prefer, you can borrow our equipment to give litter picking a go solo. Just get in touch with me at Natalie.ratner@nhpltd.org.uk or call or message 07881952542 and I can point you in the right direction.
