NHP Choosing to Challenge #IMD2021

27 NHP colleagues and friends attended an online celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March.

International Women’s Day is an annual celebration all about celebrating and embracing womanhood and raising awareness of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

The campaign theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is ‘Choose To Challenge’ and individuals in our session challenged themselves to share something that expressed how they embrace challenge in their own lives. There were inspiring stories were shared from being a foster parent to being a wild swimmer. People shared their experience of overcoming tragedy, and how their mothers and their sister have been an inspiration and support through their lives. Others talked out finding inspiration through religion and spiritual connection. As a group we pledged to continue supporting each other and make sure we are always raising other women up in our conversations with others.

Tina Burke Chief Executive North Halifax Partnership said,

“It was really nice to take the time out of work to celebrate International Women’s Day, I loved the quotes and the video at the end and it was great so many chose to speak, very inspirational – a really enjoyable session, I enjoyed the opportunity to reflect myself too 😊

A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day. We can choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequity. We can choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge.
